Every child needs someone to keep her safe, someone who is herself inherently safe. When a parent has a drinking problem, there comes a day when the child sees in a new way the situation which has been right before her eyes all along. This is often a shock, and often traumatizing. (Maybe more to be said here…don’t know yet.)
