The Ireland series was created after a visit to the western coast of Ireland in the summer of 2001. Many types of collage are present in this series, from purely abstract, to representational, to narrative forms. Diamonds and Turtle Cove are of the abstract variety, and are studies of color and form. Eire is another abstract collage, and is a postcard I made while in Ireland. Kells Cottage is a pretty depiction of a typical Irish scene, with super impositions of cut-outs of flowers, geometric patterns and color charts. Lace Curtain is a narrative collage, and lends itself to an interpretation as being the life of the female in the collage. She appears first as a young girl, then as a young woman and finally as an older woman. Her life flashes by in an instant, mortality being suggested by the x-ray of the arm (actrually it is a depiction of the Rontgen Ray, a precursor to the actually x-ray machine as we know it now.) Life-The Dream is also a narrative collage. It shows the young girl asleep, dreaming rich and textured dreams of travels (the compass) and knowledge (the atlas, rulers, etc.) She is cradled by a flower. The cut-out from the phone book shows listings of my mother's maiden name, and is from Galway City, Ireland.
