Coco and Her Daughters by Patricia Simko This work was made after a visit to my Godmother, Coco, and my three cousins in Chicago. We took a river tour of the city, and went on the Ferris wheel on Navy Pier. I subsequently found an 1893 edition of Harper's Magazine that featured a story on the famous World's Fair, hosted in Chicago in that year. It was during this Fair that the original Ferris Wheel (named after its creator, George Ferris) was introduced to the public. The wheel has the movement, grace, and the indescribable charm possessed by a vast body in action. This collage contains pieces from the present as well as from the 1893 publication. |
